A non hostile relationship with the grassroots of the Islamic world is vastly more beneficial to America’s national security interests than friendly relationships with regimes that are useful in the short term for their complacence but that are doomed by their autocratic domestic behavior". Do you agree with this statement? If yes, why yes? If not, why not?
non hostile relationships at all levels are very important, afterall the leaders / regimes also to a large extent are representives of people only. To put it other way some one could also say, have good relations with people of USA but relation with American regime doesnt matter. How odd it would look and wont serve any purpose.

Well essentially what that statement is saying is "A non-hostile relationship with the idea that breeds our enemies is beneficial to our national security", of course a non hostile relationship would be nice, but there is a reason it doesn’t and cant exist. Right now, the war on terrorism, we’re at war with an idea, and once an idea gets out of someones head, its like an incurable cancer, you can never kill it, there will ALWAYS be someone with that idea as their ideology. So there will always be extremist Muslims that don’t CARE how we act, they will find a reason to hate us. They want us to be Muslims like them…and that is highly unrealistic because of OTHER ideas that already exist, like Christianity and Judaism. Sure they hate our porn, and our fast food and our lifestyle in general, but we cant change our lifestyle, nor would the United States even be interested in conforming to what they want simply because they want it.

Security is a part of national Interest’s but security is not complete national interest. In International relationship hostile,non hostile,neutral, or friendly are as per demand of our national interest. Us is maintaining same type of relation with Islamic world since last 60 years. It has fulfilled their goals
