i agree with just spending time with ur horse. read a book while it eats, talk to it. just spend time. also play games. like a turn my back to my horse walk a few steps with a treat behind my back and wait and see how long they take to come to you. then take the treat away and see if they still come. always praise and tell them they are good when they come up to you. just a suggestion.
References :
Do your daily chores around the paddocks, You will find horses are curious by nature especially Arabs (i have one). Just clean around the horse, take the rake in with you and sweep the paddocks for horse poo. My Arab follows me as he is wondering what the heck I'm doing. Take a carrot as well as when he gets enough courage to come and look, offer him a carrot and then walk away. They like the "No pressure" format. You will gain his trust. Good luck, they have heaps of personality, every thing with an Arab is over exaggerated.!
References :
Groom, ride etc. But what i sometimes do is just go sit in the corral or stall and watch or do hw or read, that way he/she trusts you
References :
let him know that you will be there for him...
feed him, brush him (picking out feet is a good trust exercise), comfort him when he's scared, etc.
my horse loves me and that is pretty much all i do (a horse that loves attention helps too!)
References :
I am doing this with a 3 year old Arabian with very little human contact before now. He's progressing great! First of all, take your time. Go in the corral with the horse, give him treats and walk away. In a few days, give treats, halter and lead the horse. In a few more days, take the horse out, tie him, groom him, pet him, pick up his feet, reassure him. If the horse gets scared, stop and don't do any more. Later, try again. If you move slowly, take your time, and watch what the horse tells you with his behavior, you will know when you have won his trust.
